Abstract

Knowledge management has strategic importance for any manufacturing enterprise. Systematically gathered, analyzed, and interpreted professional experiences can prevent technical problems, unnecessary costs, and unnecessary engineering changes. The model for recording of knowledge and its integration into the engineering change and adaptive design processes is the main contribution of this publication. Implementation of knowledge management should consider the specifics of the production program, organization culture, and the structure of a company. Engineering change management starts already during product development. The holistic approach and long term activities are needed for application of knowledge management into existing processes. Supporting activities for applying knowledge management should include a campaign to raise knowledge sharing awareness. Special attention shall be put on the transfer of explicit and tacit knowledge from senior to coming engineers. The content of the acquired knowledge should be checked periodically, and the analysis should be followed by corrective measures.
