Abstract

Electric Road Systems (ERS) is an emerging new technology that aim to electrify land transport by supplying electric vehicles (EV) with power. By providing EV's the possibility to charge while driving i.e. dynamic charging the battery size can be greatly decreased compared to a solution with nighttime and fast charging. The evaluation of the potential of ERS has already been published in a number of papers. However, extensive measurements of the electric properties of an actual ERS has not yet been presented. This paper describes a comprehensive measurement system designed and installed in an ERS demonstrator located in Lund, Sweden. The purpose of the presented measurement system is to evaluate the different aspect of the ERS in regard of efficiency, power, losses, short circuits, overload etc. The results indicate that the measurement system has great potential in this regard.
