Abstract

The report deals with the effect of renderings on the moisture balance in
facades. The main therne is the moisture mechanism in cnnnection with different moisture sources. Different opinions about moisture in facades and consequences of moisture are mentioned as a background. The work is then concentratedon on the moisture conditions in rendered walls. Different moisture sources are discussed separately and in detail.

The effect of the rendering on condensation is shown to be small. In connection with driving rain the rendering is of very great importance.
The relationship between the properties of the rendering and the underlayer is shown to be of vital importance for absorption and drying out. The most important property is the pore structure.

Where construction moisture or rising damp are concerned a rendering
always results in a worse moisture condition. An exact calculation of moisture conditions in rendered walls is not yet possible. On the other a qualitative estimate, which in most cases is sufficient, is simple to carry out.
