Abstract
The text discusses the phenomenon of modern rune carvers within the Nordic countries. The article illuminates the purposes and different meanings connected to the act of rune carving in our time. It is concluded that the shaping of identity in close relation to visions of past times is an important part of the rune carving activities of today.
