Abstract

ARCA (Archive of Archaeological Contexts in its Spanish acronym) is an on-line database created by the Research Group ATLAS (HUM-694) of the University of Sevilla (Spain). This database includes 2,300 records of archaeological sites located within the autonomous regions of Andalusia and Extremadura. A very significant part of this information (almost 1,500 records) corresponds to the Lands of Antequera inventory of archaeological sites. This article is divided in two parts. The first part details the background of this database, the criteria that have been used in its structure and design, as well as the information sources compiled to set it up. The second part presents a (largely cartographic) synthesis of the data available for the study of settlement patterns in the Lands of Antequera throughout Prehistory, Protohistory and Ancient History.
