Bibliographical note

This talk was given in connection with the opening of Danish photographer Søren Solkær's exhibition "Surface" at Øksnehallen in Copenhagen Denmark on 13 June 2015. The exhibition displayed 120 portraits of street artists from around the world. The talk focused on street art's ability to encourage people to explore their everyday environments and the democratic impact a more critical attitude towards the use of public space may have. The themes covered in this talk are also addressed in my book "The Street Art World" (2014) (https://www.academia.edu/6999602/Bengtsen_P._2014_._The_Street_Art_World) and in my article "Beyond the public art machine" (2013). The latter is currently freely available here: http://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/cEP4axAApNN4zje7KEUn/full
