Abstract

The Swedish coast is dominated by rock shorelines (Bird, 1985; Bird and Schwartz 1985). Sand beaches are primarily found in the southern part (Lindh et al., 1970; Rydell et al., 2004), mainly in the county of Scania (Figure 3.1) but also to some extent in Halland, located on the Swedish west coast just above Scania. In Scania, sand constitutes the major source of material along about 200 km of shoreline, where stretches with sand beaches are mixed with beaches having a wide range of grain sizes, typically extending from very fine sand to boulders.
