Abstract

This article was given as a paper at the conference on Deification/Theosis at Drew University, Madison, N.J. in May 2004. The article adresses the growing interest in deification/theosis in contemporary Western theology. Recent research on deification/theosis in Luther and Thomas Aquinas are critically evaluated. The article ends with a proposal. For the better understanding of similarities and differences between Eastern and Western talk on the topic one should distinguish between the theme of deification/theosis and the doctrine proper.
