Type of infrastructure
Name of national/international infrastructure this infrastructure belongs toLBIC is also a part of the national bioimaging network Swedish Bioimaging (see website)
DescriptionLBIC is in a national infrastructure, since LBIC governs the national 7T MRI facility (see homepage)
LBIC is built up in a structural way using platforms for several types of bioimaging research. At present, the LBIC platforms encompass preclinical MR, preclinical Nuclear Medicine (PET/SPECT/CT), microscopy including electron microscopy and light microscopy, clinical MRI and the National 7T facility. In addition, IT/data handling forms an infrastructure within LBIC.
At present, LBIC has identified and works together with two separate user goups: One for the preclinical platforms and one for the National 7T platform.
For each imaging platform, a “platform responsible” person either within the LBIC steering group or within the LBIC staff is acting as coordinator of the activity of the platform.
Services providedSupport from LBIC staff for approved projects:
LBIC has a limited staff (for staff researchers and other staff members, see homepage). LBIC staff will do every effort to help researchers with their projects, given the complexity of the equipment. At present, however, LBIC cannot within its budget provide full service from start to goal for research groups that have received approval for their project.
As a general rule, LBIC staff will help with:
- Initial discussions and design of experimental layout
- Writing adequate parts of the application form to the RB
- Performing pilot studies for the project
- Providing basic teaching in handling of the equipment when experimental series are made
- Providing platforms for data storage and image analysis and assisting in data transfer and selection of image analysis tools
LBIC staff therefore cannot be expected to perform e.g. large investigational experiment series, or to perform image analysis or statistical data analysis for the research group. We therefore advice the research group to find a person within the group, that can be adequately trained with support from LBIC staff. Should the PI need LBIC staff support for such tasks as described above, or similar, the platform coordinator can decide if staff has the possibility to provide the services required for a fee.

Terms of access:
LBIC is open for all users and LBIC has a differentiated fee scale for the three groups below:
• Researchers at the medical faculty (LU), including Region Skåne researchers
• All other academic users
• Non-Academic users (eg Industry)

Research Boards
All projects are evaluated before acceptance with respect to possibility to perform the intended experiments successfully, given the available equipment at LBIC. Three different research boards are presently active for LBIC´s preclinical platform, clinical MR platform and for the National 7T platform, respectively, as described under each platform.
For further information, please see booking webpage.
