Name of national/international infrastructure this infrastructure belongs to

The bioinformatics infrastructure is a national infrastructure where all major universities contribute to a common, distributed infrastructure. NBIS is also the Swedish contact point for the European bioinformatics infrastructure, Elixir.

The infrastructure provides state-of-the-art bioinformatics support covering all major bioinformatics fields including proteomics, genomics and biostatistics.

Equipment and resources

The primary resource is the personnel and their bioinformatics expertise. The infrastructure also assists with access to compute clusters suitable for various bioinformatics needs in the research community including compute and storage of sensitive data.

Services provided

NBIS aims at enabling world-class science by providing expert knowledge in bioinformatics.

NBIS provides weekly drop-in meetings, consultation meetings, and a wide variety of top class training, short-term as well as long-term bioinformatics support in Swedish research projects.

Management of the infrastructure

Uppsala university is the host institution for NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden), which is a distributed national research infrastructure supported by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet), Science for Life Laboratory, the Knuth and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and multiple Swedish universities.
