We carry out research within the cardiometabolic, gastro-intestinal and rheumatology research areas including a number of independent researchers and PhD students. The cardiometabolic research is led by Professor Peter M Nilsson and focused on studies dedicated to early vascular ageing (EVA) and its associations with insulin resistance, metabolic abnormalities and type 2 diabetes. Included are classical epidemiological and genetic aspects. In the ongoing: ”Malmö Offspring Study” (MOS) these associations are further being studied. Gastro-intestinal research is led by Professor Bodil Ohlsson with a focus on how diet and disease interact for different symptoms and manifestations of disease from the gastro-intestinal tract. New biomarkers are studied such as zonulin. In other projects dietary interventions are tested. Finally, research in rheumatology is led by Professor Carl Turesson, for example on giant cell arteritis and diseases other than gout linked to hyperuricaemia.
