Alva ZalarDoctoral Student, Master's degree, Bachelor's degree
I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Architecture and Built environment and a part of Lund University's graduate school Agenda 2030.
My PhD project focuses on teenagers' everyday life in 'sustainable urban development projects'. I am using performativity theory (based on Judith Butler's work) to understand the spatial aspects of everyday life in relation to the bodily, social, political and institutional. My fieldwork takes place in Hyllie, Malmö's largest urban development. I understand Hyllie in the context of urban planning and design in a growth-oriented political economy while still aiming to have a 'sustainability profile' and positively impact the social conditions of the city's inhabitants.
