I am a doctoral student in Systematic Theology, interested in different intersections between theology, continental philosophy and literature. In my dissertation I explore the notion that the most indispensable aspect of the various concepts of European modernity, is that it marks a profound crisis for the Christian tradition. This notion functions as a point of departure for close readings of Friedrich Nietzsche, Karl Barth and Franz Kafka – three key figures who in their different idioms have given both powerful and evocative philosophical, theological and literary expression to this understanding of modernity. The focal point of my readings is furthermore the methodological tools that are being created by these authors in the very process of analyzing the tension between the religious and the secular sphere in their own time.
