Research

My main research expertise is in the area of EU constitutional law, in particular the delimitation of competences. In my recently published monograph, I have analysed the structure of legal bases and have discussed general criteria for legal basis litigation in EU law. I have discovered several flaws inherent in the quest for the correct legal basis on the grounds of overlapping competences, divergent inter-institutional interests, and inconsistencies in the courts' judgments.

My wider research portfolio comprises more specific areas related to EU law, such as external relations, internal market law, criminal law, and environmental law. In addition, I have a genuine interest in the legal implications of the UK's withdrawal process from the European Union (Brexit), including all aspects on trade and UK devolution.
