Current research interests

My work focuses mainly on identifying circulating biomarkers for early diagnosis and prediction of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and mental disorders. I am investigating the role of markers of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction, circulating cell-free DNA, and miRNAs as predictors of these chronic diseases. Projects I am currently working on include the following:

  1. Identification of predictive biomarkers for risk assessment of recurrent venous thromboembolism
  2. Role of specific polymorphisms in genes associated with the fibrinolytic system in venous thromboembolism.
  3. Role of circulating cell-free DNA and miRNAs in cancer patients.
  4. Role of circulating miRNAs in major cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, venous thromboembolism, and stroke
  5. Role of circulating miRNAs in mental disorders
