Contemporary and classical social theory, cultural sociology/cultural studies, social psychology, media and society, identity, sociology of knowledge. Publications comprise books, book chapters and articles in areas like classical and contemporary notions of modernity (classical modernity, late modernity, postmodernity), sociology of knowledge, globalisation, identity, cultural memory, hermeneutics of the contemporary, fiction as source of knowledge, the relation between social science, the essay, and the novel.
Current and recently concluded research projects include ”Fourth wave terrorism – Threats, mobility and complexity of the open city”, ”The Ghetto and urban transformation”, ”Assimilitis. Joseph Roth – Eastern Jew, Cosmopolitan, European – Classical Sociological Reflections on a Classical Modern Life”; ”A modern calamity – Robert Musil on stupidity”; ”Relational Social Psychology. From Simmel and Buber to Contemporary Theories”; ”Sociological Essayism – Essayistic Sociology. Substantial teaching experiences at different universities (Lund University, Copenhagen University, Linnaeus University, Halmstad University College) and from all levels of education – bachelor's, master’s, doctor’s – reaching from 1995, including extensive experiences of supervision of master’s and bachelor’s theses. Wide experience of developing, implementing and evaluating courses and programmes.
Visiting scholar at Mohyla Academy, Kyiv, Hebrew University, Jerusalem; Peking University, Beijing; Fudan University, Shanghai. Teaching in different social science fields: general sociology, social theory, social psychology, cultural sociology, methodology, epistemology, European studies, media and communication, social work. Concluded qualifying higher education teacher training courses (general introduction course, doctoral supervision course).
