My doctoral project is socio-cultural exploration of endurance running. I use diaries, semi-structured interviews, projective techniques and netnography to access runners’ sensemaking processes related to their hobby. I am attempting to show that the kind of extreme endurance running events that exist today illustrate a new way of understanding leisure, the body and the self as productive entities undergirded by market logic.
