Research

My principal research areas are the history of knowledge, environmental history, history of the future, and media history. I study how environmental concern arose in society at large during the 1960s and early 1970s. I am particularly interested in how the cultural understanding of the environmental crisis was connected to other global concerns, such as the looming threats of nuclear war and overpopulation. I am also interested in the emergence of futures studies.
