My field of interest is the use and interpretation of the so called 'imprecatory psalms' (i.e. passages from The Book of Psalms that invoke violence on enemies) with special emphasis on modern (Western) Christian liturgical use and reception. In my doctoral research I investigate how Pss. 58, 109, 137 and 139 are and have been commented on by biblical scholars during the 21st century. Apart from mapping interpretative strategies commonly applied to imprecatory psalms in general, and Pss. 58, 109, 137 and 139 in particular, I also wish to evaluate how Old Testament Exegesis, as an academic discipline, can contribute to and benefit from the particular questions and needs posed by contemporary worshipping communities that use and read the Book of Psalms as a Book of Prayer.
