Fanny Christou studied political sciences at Sciences Po Toulouse. She also defended a Master in Geopolitics and International Relations (University of Toulouse) and another one in International Cultural Strategies (University of Albi) that led her to begin a PhD on the Palestinian diaspora in December 2013.
Her thesis, entitled Territorialisation of political mobilisation of the Palestinian Diaspora under Kamel Doraï’s supervision (University of Poitiers, Migrinter and IFPO, Jordan) and that of Sari Hanafi, Professor of Sociology at the American University of Beirut, articulates the issue of political mobilization and the singularity of the forms of territorialisation of the Palestinian diaspora. The originality of her research lies in the analysis of Palestinian political participation in relation to mobility within the Diaspora, with a focus on the Palestinians in Sweden. She defended her PhD thesis in December 2017.
Before her stay at CMES, she was a visiting researcher at MRI and RSC, Oxford University. She obtained twice a scholarship from the French IHEDN to conduct field research in Sweden, where she has been visiting researcher and Junior Fellowship holder at CMES, Lund University. She also obtained a doctoral scholarship from the Foundation of the University of Poitiers. As a visiting researcher at CMES she has been able to conduct her fieldwork investigation and meet many local actors.
She has taught at BSc level at the University of Lyon 3 (Geopolitics of Middle East) and in Sweden, at SoL (BA Middle Eastern Studies) and CMES (MA Middle Eastern Studies), Lund University on the theme of Conflict diasporas.
She has contributed a chapter entitled “Voices in the square: Palestinian activism in Malmö”, in S. Sofos (eds), Cities, politics and everyday life, Palgrave Macmillan, 2018 and presented papers conferences and congresses (IPSA, Poznan; AISLF, Montreal; ECPR, Prague; The Nordic Society for Middle Eastern Studies, Odense). She participated in postgraduate summer schools organized by IFPO, Beirut in 2014 and Princeton University and the IMISCOE network in August 2016.
