Research

Expertise on the development of pilot plants for the production of bio-based products (short chain fatty acids, hydrogen, methane) from organic waste substrates. Production of biopolymers from sewage sludge and organic waste. Wastewater treatment via membrane technologies, for micro pollutants removal and nutrients recovery. Membrane processes in biorefinery industry as well as water and wastewater treatment with focus on the integration and optimization of membrane processes as stand-alone units and as part of hybrid processes. Fouling and cleaning challenges related to these treatments are addressed. Additional ongoing working is undertaken in the optimization of membranes and modules required for specific applications in the wastewater treatment process design, modelling and economics.
