Electrochemistry has may important application such as batteries, fuel cells, corrosion resistance, sensors, electroplating, and metal extraction. My research interests are focused on the study of electrochemical systems at the atomic and nanoscale where many interesting phenomena occur. For instance, the anodization of aluminum in an acid creates nanopores, and these can arrange themselves into a hexagonal pattern. The atomic structure of surfaces is also interesting because this is where most of the chemistry actually takes places, small changes in the atomic arrangement can drastically affect the efficiency of process. In particular, I am interested in using synchrotron X-rays such as those generated at MAX IV here in Lund or elsewhere to gain new insights into electrochemistry. Currenlt I use the techniques of surface diffraction, grazing-incidence small angle scattering, and X-ray microscopy using small beams.
