Research

Gustav has a long-standing interest in the root causes of heart disease and the transition from population-level to individual-level cardiovascular medicine. His primary aims are to improve understanding of the pathophysiology of heart disease, identify novel therapeutic targets and facilitate precision medicine in cardiology. To this end, his research group leverages big data analysis drawing on methods from genetic epidemiology, proteomics, metabolomics, functional genomics and population sciences. He has a particular interest in the pathways leading up to end-stage heart failure and in the transplanted heart.
