A key aspect of my multidisciplinary research has been the health of racial/ethnic minority groups, immigrants and refugees. My research has a strong focus on the influence of social and familial environments on psychiatric and drug use disorders where we have used large nationwide databases to provide insights into mechanisms and risk factors, as well as performed a randomised clinical trial/intervention in patients with depression and anxiety in a primary health care setting.

My record of scholarly, clinical, and administrative experience and accomplishment includes an extensive number of peer-reviewed publications (more than 564 articles published), specialties in both family and community medicine and public health, and a highly successful record of raising funds from both private and governmental sources in Europe and the U.S., including 4 R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health as a PI.
