I combine work in university management with research in strategic communication since several years ago. Since 2017 I am Executive Director for the Division of Research, Collaboration and Innovation (FSI) - supporting research funding, collaboration with all kinds of stakeholders and innovation processes. FSI includes four departments: LU Innovation (linked to LU Holding - a state owned company focusing commercialization of research at Lund University), Research Services (supporting research applications, especially EU-funding and Wallenberg funding, as well as supporting the university management regardning research politics), Department for Collaboration (coordinating collaborative projects, research communications) and Development Office (fundraising, including a LU Foundation in th US). FSI is also system owner of Lucris. 2011-2016 I was Rector for Campus Helsingborg, Lund University. 2009-2011 I was Head of the School of Arts and Communication (K3) at Malmö University. 2008-2009 I was Head of the Department of Communication Studies at Campus Helsingborg.
My interest concerns strategic communication (the intersecting fields of public relations, marketing communication and organizational communication) and journalism. Previous research projects have concerned both media studies and strategic communication (news management, media representations, communication strategies and campaigns, crisis and conflict communication, press ethics and organizational communication).
Since 2004 I have mainly worked with research concering crisis communication, social media and terrorism, public relations and place branding. In 2006 I was a visiting scholar at Media Research Institute, Stirling University, Scotland.
I received my Ph.D. at the Department of Sociology, Media and Communication Studies, in 2004. I was appointed as Associate Professor (Docent) in 2008 by the Faculty of Social Science, Lund University, and appointed as Chair Professor in Strategic Communication in 2012. Moreover, I have done guest lectures at several national and international universities (e.g. in Denmark, China, India, Austria, U.K., Canada, Iran, Slovenia, Croatia, Russia, Norway, Holland) as well as at associations and national and global corporations. I have been a reviewer for several international journals, e.g. Journal of Communication, Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, Scandinavian Journal of Management, New Media and Society, Corporate Communication - an International Journal, Public Relations Review, Nordicom Review, Journal of Communication, Communication Yearbook and International Journal of Strategic Communication.
Since 2016 I am Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Communication Management, one of the core academic journals in my field. In 2017 the government assigned me as a new member of the board at University College of Halmstad.
I have several international assignemnts, e.g. as Honorary Fellow in Corporate Communication at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Swedish representative of European Communication Monitor, advisory board member at CCI (Corporate Communication International) at CUNY in New York, US.
Finally, I have since the 90s had a close connection to media and communication practice as freelance writer, executive educator, strategy consultant and as a member of professional boards.
I currently supervise two Ph.D candidates in media and communication studies (strategic communication).
Originally trained in public relations and journalism, in addition to my academic work I, since several years have consulted organizations in communication management matters, work with commissioned executive education (as Program Director for Communication Executives Program) at IFL/Stockholm School of Economics/Swedish Public Relations Association and do some freelance writing.
