I have been self-employed since 2004 working as an architect and illustrator. My focus as an architect is eco-friendly housing and sustainable urban planning.
In May 2020, I completed my doctorate in environmental psychology. The interdisciplinary field of environmental psychology is well suited to my background as a practising architect with a focus on sustainable housing and planning. This discipline studies the interplay between individuals and the built and natural environment. Human behaviour influences the environment, and the environment affects human behaviour and wellbeing. My research topic concerns how wellbeing is related to light-dark cycles and sleep-wake patterns.
The thesis project aimed to increase understanding of how residents use their lighting from natural and fabricated light sources, what they want from it and when they do not want it. Another aim was to evaluate a personalised home lighting system in terms of comfort and intention to use the system.
