My research has a strong focus on the influence of social and familial environments on chronic disorders. I have used large databases to provide insights into pathogenic mechanisms in cancer, as well as CVD, chronic psychiatric disorders, type 2 diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. In addition, I was the first researcher to study the concordant (same-subtype) and discordant (different-subtype) associations between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.

I am PI for two large projects financed by National Institutes of Health at Lund University (Neighborhoods and Coronary Disease: Exploring Mechanisms and Improving Methods and the project Social, Developmental and Genetic Epidemiology of Alcohol Use Disorders. I am also PI a clinical project focused on atrial fibrilliation including 25 primary health care centres.
