Project Title: The Pre-PCR Processing Project (P4 / P5)
Project period for P4 and P5: 2014-2016 and 2016-2019
Project goal: Method development focused on improving the processes around diagnostic DNA analysis based on PCR / qPCR technology
Description: The Division of Applied Microbiology is part of a collaborative project together with four national expert authorities in diagnostic DNA analysis: the National Forensic Centre (NFC), the National Veterinary Institute (SVA), the National Food Agency and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI). The project aims to build a collaboration platform for more efficient DNA / RNA analysis, where knowledge sharing and pooling resources are the foundation of the development towards improved diagnostic methods by applying the concept of pre-PCR processing. Pre-PCR processing includes the different strategies developed by Applied Microbiology in order to optimize the detection limit of PCR-based analysis, by creating the best conditions for PCR amplification in a complex biological sample. This is done by optimizing the sampling method, extraction process and / or the amplification environment.
The project is funded by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
