My PhD project will concern the development of models for physics at hadron colliders such as the LHC. A prime focus will be to improve the understanding of minimum-bias physics, where recent experimental data have shown unexpected behaviour. Important aspects are the role of dense-packing in the partonic and hadronic stages of the event where, among other aspects, we need to improve our understanding of hadronic rescattering. The physics models will be developed as part of the Pythia event generator project, within the context of the EU-funded MCnetITN3 network.
