Max's research is situated within the field of public intervention on competitive markets, with a focus on analytical and theoretical aspects. The study focuses the application of economic and political market failure theory to the legal framework of the EU market. In this respect, the study focuses on economic and non-economic objectives within the legal framework, in particular EU competition law. A critical analysis of the Court’s proportionality assessment is carried out, in order to provide a re-interpretation of the legal field.  

Professional work

Max is the editor in chief of the Nordic Journal of European Law.


Teaching includes: EU Law in the Swedish law programme, EU competition law, state aid, internal market law, new challenges to the internal market.


Max is part of the EU law research environment where he, together with his colleagues, organises seminars on EU-related topics within the EU law discussion group.
