The projects aim at refined diagnosis, prognosis and better risk estimates with the long-term goals of reduced morbidity and mortality from hereditary colorectal cancer and sarcoma. The research is carried out at the Department of Oncology and Pathology, Lund University in collaboration with clinical departments at the Skane University Hospital and the Regional Cancer Centre South.

In hereditary colorectal cancer we aim at improved risk estimates and identification of genetic mechanisms and deranged signaling networks.

  1. Colorectal cancer risk modelling in Lynch syndrome and in familial colorectal cancer type X (FCCTX), including assessment of the prevalence of extracolonic cancers, interval cancers and metachronous colorectal cancers
  2. Identification of novel disease-predisposing genes in hereditary colorectal cancer through new sequencing approaches
  3. Characterization of key signalling networks and telomerase-related proteins in colorectal cancers linked to Lynch syndrome and FCCTX

In sarcoma we aim at refined diagnostics and prognostics through:

  1. Determination of radiation-induced genetic profiles
  2. Identification of early markers of metastasis
  3. Prognostic evaluation of stromal components and other candidate biomarkers in defined sarcoma histotypes
