Research

I am currently a member of the Neuroendocrine Cell Biology Group headed by Nils Wierup in Lund University Diabetes Centre. My research focuses on the mechanisms of remission of Type 2 Diabetes after gastric bypass surgery. I am particularly interested in the differences in small intestinal biology between diabetics and non diabetics and would like to further understand these differences in order to develop better treatments for Type 2 Diabetes.

I carried out my PhD research in Ulster University Coleraine under the supervision of Professor Aine McKillop and Professor Peter Flatt. This research focused on how various GPCRs can be activated by fatty acids, peptides and monoatomic ions to increase incretin hormone secretion in vitro and in vivo.

I obtained my MSc and Bsc degrees from Queen's University Belfast
