Research

My primary research interest concerns climate related loads on buildings and infrastructure, an area on which I also did my doctoral research. In the research in this field, I have focused on effects of thermal loads on concrete structures, where a current aim is to find practically applicable methods for including such effects in advanced design tools. In a new research project, the effects of climate change on climate related loads and our building design principles will be studied together with researchers from Rossby Centre, SMHI. This is a large personal interest area, and one I believe will be a primary focus for the foreseeable future.  I have also performed research related to climate effects on corrosion in masonry walls and am currently involved in research on assessment of residual load carrying capacity in corroded concrete structures.

Another interest is the application of probabilistic methods in engineering and how this can be used in new areas. An example is a project where we study the possibilities of using decision theory for condition assessment and maintenace decisions for bridges.
