Professor Tobias Kümmerle is Head of Conservation Biogeography at Department of Conservation Biogeography at Humboldt-University Berlin and the holder of Wallenberg guestprofessorship at Lund University.
Prof. Kuemmerle’s research approach is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, while being firmly grounded in geography, land-system science, conservation biology, and ecology. During his guestprofessorship at Lund University, CEC/BECC he will explore three interrelated questions, using a mix of quantitative modelling, meta-analyses, and targeted expert workshops:
- How do trade-offs between agriculture and biodiversity vary across space, and how have recent land-use changes affected these trade-offs?
- How do trade-offs between agriculture and biodiversity in heterogeneous landscapes (i.e. landscape that combines agricultural production with the preservation of semi-natural and natural habitat) change with observational scale?
- How can recent scientific advances in understanding agriculture/biodiversity trade-offs be transferred and applied to forestry?
