Research

I am an associate professor in history and work within the fields of media, gender and labour history.

In my research I have foremost used pop cultural medias to explore people’s experiences and identities and the spirit of the times. My main focus has been the specific conditions and cultural expressions of Swedish class society in the 20th century. I have also contributed to the discussions of the renewal of the concept of class in Class. Feminist and Cultural Perspectives (Routledge 2016).

Currently, I run the project In Light of the Dead. Constructions of National Identities at Public Funerals in the Shape of Media Events in Sweden, 1901–2003. Departing from a broader range of medias, the aim is to examine how democracy and monarchy have been mediated in the narrations of the Swedish welfare state.

With Lena Wängnerud I am also the editor of The Century of Suffrage (Rösträttens århundrade, forthcoming 2018), jubilee book of the 100-years of democracy in Sweden.
