My PhD research is part of the FORMAS funded research project "The takeoff of staying on the ground" which studies the rising movement in Sweden to reduce flying, and the potentially transformative cultural shift it represents. In my research, I explore how narratives associated with reducing air travel for climate change reasons have emerged, evolved and spread in news media and social media, and analyze the role of these narratives in driving low-carbon lifestyle changes and contributing to the social, cultural, and political changes needed for coming to grips with the climate impacts from aviation.
