The project is a formal collaboration between the Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida and the Swedish Institute at Athens, but also involves researchers from Lund University. The aim is to map and document previously known as well as recently discovered remains in a three-dimensional GIS (Geographical Information System). These data will form the basis for separate studies on the urban, demographic and social development of the city. The fieldwork began in summer 2015 with a pilot study for testing various documentation strategies (including 3D laser scanning, drone photo modelling and surveying with GPS). Investigation focused on the presumed temple of Demeter Chthonia and its surroundings, but the ancient city walls and the necropolis were also surveyed. In the following field campaigns (2016, 2017) these investigations were continued and intensified. From 2018 the focus shifted towards the ancient city area, involving issues such as urban layout and water supply.
