At the pediatric surgery department in Lund, we operate newborn babies with malformations in the stomach. Many custodians have described a great deal of uncertainty following discharge from the hospital. Nowadays, via a tablet and an app, they can communicate with healthcare professionals via pictures, video, and chat. The custodians bring the tablet home and use it when they want to have contact or support, for example about the child's well-being, wound healing, etc. The communication is done in encrypted form so that even sensitive images can be sent safely. Contact is made on the families' terms.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the caregivers' experience of communicating with healthcare professionals via tablets after surgery on their children. We study this through questionnaires and interviews. We also examine the care staff's experiences with the e-plate, and we weave together the custodians and staff's views on how e-health in child care can safely take place. We will gradually be able to answer this from 2021 and onwards.
