Every year, around 1,000 children are born in Sweden with a malformation of the heart. Congenital heart defects due to birth defects are the most common heart disease in children. It may be, for example, holes in the partitions of the heart or constrictions of the flaps in the heart or large vessels. About one-third of the congenital injuries are treated during the first months of life. Most children are treated with good results, but often the child needs to be monitored for a long period of time. The pediatric cardiac surgery in Sweden is concentrated to Lund and Gothenburg. To finally be able to come home can be perceived as difficult after a long hospital stay and sometimes complications have arisen in connection with surgery. At the same time, parents experience great relief in being able to return to their usual environment. During the spring and autumn of 2020, we will develop an application on a tablet computer to support the parents at home. Parents and caregivers will be active during the development phase in order to capture their special needs. After the development phase, the application will be evaluated through questionnaires and interviews with parents and health care professionals.
