Improving in-hospital safety by use of the National Early Warning Score
Systematic scoring of vital signs in all adult in-hospital patients in Region Skane, Sweden, by use of the National Early Warning Score “NEWS”, including the associated clinical risk scale and response algorithm, started in September 2015. The aim of this project is to evaluate the use of NEWS and the potential beneficial effects in a Swedish setting with a focus on intensive care. In the first study we have translated and tested the NEWS and investigated the association of NEWS values with ICU admission (5). The following studies will focus on NEWS dynamics, intervention outcome and prediction of ICU readmissions. The Doctoral student in this dissertation/thesis project “Improving in-hospital patient safety using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS)” is Martin Spångfors.
