Description
The objective of this project is to enhance the knowledge base about opportunities for process electrification as a means to contributing to decarbonization of the process industry sector by 2050. Although new electrification concepts cannot be expected to be introduced in industry for at least 10-15 years, it is important to identify robust concepts at an early stage since lead times for structural changes in industry are very long and initial strategic decisions in industrial boards must be taken very soon. The project will investigate opportunities to adapt existing and new processes to electricity as an energy carrier as well as the technical, economic and climate consequences of such changes in a Swedish system context. The results can be used by industry to compare electrification as an option for decarbonisation of their processes with other options such as feedstock switching,
