Description

The Popular Culture Studies Research Node

The Popular Culture Studies Research Node has the ambition to gather scholars interested in studying different kinds of popular culture expressions, as for instance: TV, graphic novels, music videos, sports, gaming, film, fan cultures, media, popular literature, and much more. The concept of popular culture in itself is also to be problematized and discussed within the node’s framework.

The node is focusing popular culture in a Nordic context, both popular culture from the Nordic countries, and representations and expressions of the Nordic in popular culture from other parts of the world. The node is based in the Department of Arts and Popular Culture, Lund University, but also strives for involving scholars from other departments and universities.

POPULÄR – Nordic Journal for Popular Culture Research

The main platform for the node is the electronic journal POPULÄR – Nordic Journal for Popular Culture Research. Except for publishing articles, the node also arranges seminars and other meetings around the journal.
POPULÄR will have two issues published each year. It has an open access policy, and is accessible on the platform Open Journal Systems (OJS). The first articles will be published during 2019. The languages used are from the Nordic countries, and English. POPULÄR applies a peer-review system for the articles to be published. The editing board of the journal consists of scholars from The Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences, with backgrounds and competences ranging from comparative literature to ethnology, intermedia studies, and digital cultures (see below, under ”Contact”).
