Following a government decision in 2007 all the municipalities in Sweden had the opportunity to seek incentives to improve quality of care and care for the elderly, among other things, to increase the number of preventive home visits. Preventive home visits is an important method of reaching out to groups that otherwise are difficult to reach with information about the options available in the municipality, such as local points, activities in clubs, walking groups, the opportunity to offer and receive voluntary contributions and a possibility to talk about the elderly persons use of pharmaceuticals. For caretaking relatives, who do not have contact with the municipality, it is an opportunity to get information on the opportunities for assistance and relief available in the municipality. In Helsingborg are now approx. 3000 persons> 80 years who do not already have some form of intervention from the community and these will in the period 2008-2010 be offered a preventive home visit. The project's long-term objective is to evaluate the effects of the focus on preventive home visits, with the target group of older persons (80 years and older) that do not have input from home care. The objective of the project is to develop and pilot test the evidence-based approach for the implementation of preventive home visits, and design and plan for a comparative study of the effects of intervention, "preventive home visits" in Helsingborg.
