My doctoral project examines how urban poor interface the state-controlled, market-facilitated and civil society-mediated displacement, resettlement and rehabilitation projects in India’s biggest megacity-Mumbai. Through a multisite ethnographic study of the resettlement colonies spread in different administrative wards in Mumbai, I tend to explore the transforming state-subaltern relations in the context of urban redevelopment, engendered subjectivities in resettlement and rehabilitation processes, everyday experiences of dwelling and aspects of governance in resettlement colonies.
