Description

TransEuro is a project aiming at demonstrating that implantation of embryonic neural tissue can improve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease in a reproducible way and without the development of side effects such as involuntary movements (hyperkinesias). The study is a multicenter study, with centers in the UK evaluating and grafting patients. The study has two Components; one Observational study of a Group of 150 patients that has been followed for up to 5 yeras. This Group serve as a background disease progression control Group. Any treatment is allowed in this Group including DBS (Deep brain stimulation), or pump treatments, should it be clinically necessary. From this Group 20 patients have been randomized to be implantated with embryonic tissue. The grafted patients undergo extensive evaluation priot to grafing and afterwards, including PET assessments with 3 ligand and an advanced fMRI assemment in addtion to the cinical evaluation.
TransEuro stated out as an EU funded project ans i snow continuing with other funds.
