Transition governance - a critical review of methods for the evaluations of research and policy instruments.
Research and policy instruments, properly designed and combined, are expected to realize a transition to a more sustainable energy system (transition governance). Such a process, however, requires well-designed evaluation strategies that generate learning and knowledge on how different research and policy-related initiatives affect the energy system. Moreover, the design of such evaluation strategies requires a solid knowledge regarding methods for evaluating such a transition and different types and combinations of research and policy instruments. Today the knowledge on evaluation is fragmented and strongly linked to different disciplines. In the proposed research project we intend to develop cross-border knowledge regarding methods and evaluation of research and policy instruments. Several methodological approaches will be critically analyzed and evaluation strategies that support "transition governance" will developed. Within the project, these strategies will also be tested. The project started in September 2015 and a PhD candidate, Sofie Sandin, has been employed at IIIEE to work on the project.
