No innocent ears: an inter-cultural perspective on the transmission of traditional music
Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Book chapter
Abstract
This text is an attempt to approach fundamental layers in the formation of
musical meaning in learning processes where musicians work with music
from cultures other than their own. The point of departure is my personal
experience as a musician from two distinct perspectives:
• my double roles as a teacher of the zither đàn tranh in the Vietnam
National Academy of Music as well as in the Malmö Academy of Music
• my experience of learning to play experimental western music, working
both with composers and improvisers
