N2 - In a screening of basidiomycete cultures from Chile for the production of antibiotics we identified a Serpula himantoides strain as a producer of metabolites inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi. Bioactivity guided purification resulted in the isolation of four new antibiotics. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. All four compounds are succinimide and maleimide derivatives, of which two are N-hydroxylated.
