Josephine’s research and teaching is about the economic development of cities and regions, including

  • collaboration, knowledge transfer and learning
  • cities and a knowledge economy
  • innovation and creativity in peripheries
  • regional economic development and change

Empirical projects investigate these themes in different contexts, including the health system and the MedTech sector, but also cultural and creative industries. Current projects focus on innovation and creativity in peripheries; The role of agency in shaping regional development paths in Sweden; and the dynamics of multi-national and multi-disciplinary collaborations in large scale research infrastructures, such as the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund. 


Teaching areas range from basic (bach.) to advanced (msc.) level economic geography (industrial dynamics, geography of innovation, cities in a knowledge economy, urban planning and regional economic development, and current topics in economic geography), in addition to coordinating the project-based Applied Research Methods in Urban Planning.
