Abstract

In this paper we argue for a developmental perspective in language assessment of second language learning, and that there is a need for an assessment with clear and precise criteria for evaluating the grammatical levels. Processability Theory is suggested as a theoretical framework for a stage model that enables teachers to follow the second language development over time. We have tested this approach with teachers in kindergarten and school. The results show that the teachers find this use of PT a suitable tool for understanding the gradual second language development in predictable stages.
